Dear Lovers of Opera in the Greater Baltimore area!

home_Giorgio

Thank you to all of you that supported our first season of opera at the historic Hippodrome Theatre. As all of you who attended the performances know, the shows were a great success with the audience, and the theatre proved to be wonderful venue for opera with absolutely no acoustical issues.

We are very grateful to the many people who sent donations to us after the performance of RIGOLETTO on March 11 since no donations had been solicited.

For season 2010-11 we invite you back to the historic Hippodrome Theatre for Puccini’s MADAMA BUTTERFLY – Saturday, October 23, at 7PM.

IN WINTER 2011 we will present two different operas at the GORDON CENTER FOR ARTS: Donizetti’s haunting LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR on February 2 and 3, at 7:30PM and Verdi’s timeless LA TRAVIATA on March 9 and 10 at 7:30PM. We feel very certain that this theatre will prove to be an excellent venue for opera with its large stage, large orchestra pit and phenomenal acoustics.

Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness and a gaiety and life to everything. It is the essence of order and leads to all that is true and beautiful.

Plato 427-347 B.C.

All productions will be full scale with a 40-member orchestra, professional chorus and international soloists from the leading opera houses of Europe and the USA who are actively engaged in operatic careers. The productions will feature easy to read ENGLISH super titles projected above the stage.

At the GORDON CENTER you will find free, well-lit parking. Ticket information will be posted soon.

With best wishes,
Giorgio Lalov
Artistic Director, Baltimore Opera Theatre, Inc.

Opera is Good Fit at Hippodrome Theater

Hippodrome Street View The elegantly regilded Hippodrome Theatre could be mistaken for an old-world opera house. On Wednesday night for three hours that's exactly what it was. The experience certainly was positive enough to make me want to hear more operatic workouts at the Hippodrome and boasted an agile, true ensemble cast that carried out comic moments with particular aplomb. Everybody onstage demonstrated an appreciation for the expressive richness of Mozart's writing and considerable determination to add nuance to their phrasing. Giorgio Lalov's staging kept things animated.
